Minnesota is an “employment at will” state which means that employers may terminate their employees for no reason or any reason that doesn’t break the law. (This is assuming that there isn’t a contract between employee and employer for a definite term of employment). Terminating someone because of their age, disability, race, religion or sex is illegal and would qualify as “wrongful termination.”
Discrimination that does not result in termination can also provide the basis for a legal claim. It is illegal for employers to base compensation, promotions, work conditions and other privileges of employment on age, disability, race, religion or sex.
If you’ve been discriminated against or wrongfully terminated, you could be entitled to monetary damages and/or reinstatement to your job. For a free initial consultation, contact Alicia Anderson today.
